Introduction.

Although it may seem a minor point to many readers and researchers, there is nothing more aggravating for a reader or researcher than encountering an unexplained acronym or abbreviation that is critical to understanding a written passage.

Many authors simply assume that their readers are expert in their own particular field, and so they often do not bother to clutter up their text with explanations. Communist and homosexual newspapers, medical writers, and certain conservative and Neoliberal policy digests are especially prone to using unfamiliar abbreviations.

A list of abbreviations occasionally comes in handy for those coordinating or participating in pro-life work. Pro-lifers routinely use words in place of names, i.e., FOCA, NARAL, NOW, CPC, and RCAR. These initials may not have any meaning to the new activist.

Additionally, if a veteran pro-lifer sees a flyer about an abortion debate at BPOE Lodge #1138 of Elkpole, Indiana, what does he look for in the phone book? If one of the speakers at this event has a string of initials behind his name such as DD, STD, and CSsR, how does a person address him?

A Thousand Acronyms Upon Your House!

The remainder of this appendix consists of explanations of more than one thousand acronyms and abbreviations that the reader may encounter when reading about and researching the life issues. Some of these initials are obviously outdated and will of use only to those people poring over documents that are half a century old, but others are very timely, and more initials are being invented every week.

Many of the abbreviations listed below include a notation that identifies the entity as either pro-life or anti-life, as follows.
